The Beaulieu Fabrics LIFE CYCLE programme
Mushrooms are unique organisms that play a key part in the natural recycling process. They reduce organic waste by using it as a necessary tool to flourish. We, at Beaulieu Fabrics, are inspired by the natural life cycle of mushrooms to treat our environment accordingly. It is in our interest and that of our partners that we continue being committed to environmental stewardship.
We strive towards reducing any harm that may be caused by the production processes at our company and those of our business partners on the environment. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to an eternal life cycle, which not only treats the quality of the world we live in with respect, but also benefits from it.
Our green policy is to constantly look for ways in which we can improve Beaulieu Fabrics’ green credentials. As such, this concern for environmental compliance has become a part of our corporate culture. A steering group explores ways to continually improve the way we meet our Statement promises and to link with other like-minded organizations. Team members are informed of the green objectives, and trained to help achieving these objectives.
Product Development
Seeking alliances with earth-friendly suppliers is a prime directive for our supply chain and manufacturing team.
Our purchasers and designers are thoughtful in how materials and design can yield an eco-friendly product.
Since 2004, we have obtained Öko-Tex 100 certification.
Both natural and synthetic yarns can be applied in different ways to make the fabrics in which they are woven more globe-friendly. Our commitment includes exploring and implementing sound products.
Manufacturing
We continually look for ways to improve our manufacturing processes and make responsible environmental choices.
• Beaulieu Fabrics is a participating member of the VECAP programme for bromated flame retardants.
• We are offering Broom- and Halogen free flame retardants to our Customers who require fabrics to comply with flame retardant standard BS 5852.
• Production processes have been x-rayed and subsequent process re-design has resulted in reduced waste materials being generated throughout the production process. The remaining waste is sorted and either re-used within the Company, or recycled by a specialized re-cycling Company.
• The production process has been configured to produce very little effluent and the little industrial waste water we have is treated by a specialized Company. No industrial waste water whatsoever comes into the sewer system.
• As of June 2007, the European Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 concerning Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (better known as REACH) entered into force. Beaulieu Fabrics’ position on REACH is unequivocal: all measures are in place in order to ensure REACH compliancy, not only during the pre-registration phase, but also for the period beyond 1st December 2008.
Energy conservation
• Sun paneling is being installed on the roofs of the 1km –long business site we occupy. Sun paneling is being considered a most environmentally friendly method of generating electricity. Output of this gigantic panel field equates to 30 % of Beaulieu Fabrics’ electricity requirements.
• Beaulieu Fabrics underwent an ECO-scan by an independent environmental auditing firm. During this process, all equipment and every process, from the light bulbs to the company car, have been audited on their environmental merits. Subsequently several investments are being proposed to further enhance energy efficiency throughout the business.
Mushrooms sometimes pop up where you least expect them. But once they have found a good soil to flourish, they will reappear over and over again.
A constant continuation of recycling waste.
A constant strive for renewal.
